MELBOURNE, Australia, 13 June 2011 – Dashwood Consulting (www.dashwoodconsulting.com) delivers industry education sessions to give a good knowledge base to new (and not so new) staff from vendors, service providers, and document generators across the document systems industry.
Dashwood Consulting Managing Director Brett Dashwood edp has built an enviable array of skills from two decades in the electronic document systems industry. Starting in very technical roles in the early 1990’s, Dashwood subsequently travelled the world while holding technical, solutions, and business management positions, including Asia Pacific Solutions Manager for PrintSoft and CEO of PrintSoft Americas based in Chicago.
"My years in this industry has allowed me to cover many areas across a large number of vertical industries, both at a technical and business level", said Dashwood. "I see vendors, service providers, and end users employ people that are great for their role, however being new to the industry, they often need a long time to create the foundation of knowledge that normally only experience can deliver. We want to help change that."
Having been involved in extensive document projects, and delivered training courses and presentations on 5 continents, Dashwood believes that Dashwood Consulting have the experience to deliver education sessions that can enable a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build a career in our wonderfully diverse industry.
All training sessions are available tailored to the recipient company and typically range from a few hours to a few days, over days, weeks, or months.
Content delivered to date has included topics such as:
- Overview of the industry, vendors, and technology
- Mail/print house overview – the market and the new breed of print service provider
- "Around" the document creation process – pre and post print devices and processes
Through to more detailed sessions such as:
- TransPromotional – What it really is
- Hybrid Mail – Creating time, money, and logistical savings
- Impact of electronic document delivery
And more technical subjects like:
- Machine readable symbologies (eg. barcodes, QR, OMR, MICR)
- Page Description Languages (PDLs)
- Typography
- Data and character sets (eg. single-byte, double-byte, bi-directional, Unicode)
All sessions include definitions and use of appropriate industry terms, acronyms, and jargon too. “There is a large amount of industry acronyms and jargon out there, and knowing them in context is so important in building confidence when communicating with fellow staff, customers and suppliers. In the early days I too was guilty of occasionally fluffing my way through conversations, pretending that I knew enough of the subject matter, and then getting embarrassed when asked to give my opinion or answer a question, giving away my lack of knowledge on the topic. Whether you are the guy on the shop room floor, an Account Manager, or the CEO, a little bit of knowledge can go a long way,” Dashwood added.
These industry education sessions complement Dashwood Consulting’s consulting services, as well as standard and customised product training offerings, such as Advanced PReS usage.
